Groups & Personal Support
At the Epilepsy Foundation of Wisconsin, we firmly believe that no one should have to face their epilepsy alone. While epilepsy causes seizures, it isn’t simple enough to say that’s all it causes. Epilepsy can also cause significant disruptions in a person’s life in several ways – sometimes requiring sizeable lifestyle changes.
While we provide many different learning opportunities with our various educational programs, we also recognize the value in learning from those who live with epilepsy on a daily basis. While epilepsy is a very common neurological disorder, it can also be difficult to find people like this. It's why we are determined to provide support for you in whatever way we can.
Connect Groups
Our connect groups aim to tackle the concern of isolation – a condition many people with epilepsy often face. Joining one of our connect groups is an easy way to meet others who have been affected by epilepsy – people who have either been diagnosed with it or are a parent or caregiver of someone who has it. Participating in one of these groups offers a person a safe and understanding environment to share experiences, enjoy open discussions about a wide array of topics, or even just sit in and listen to others. Our groups are structured to be social in nature and ask that people be at least 18 years old to attend. If you’re looking for more serious discussions, rather than social engagements, check out our Virtual Meet Ups (under “Education and Awareness”) or request a personal discussion with a small group or one-to-one.

Personal Discussions
While we do not offer licensed therapy, we are happy to provide both one-to-one and small group (3 or 4 people) discussions that are focused entirely on epilepsy or epilepsy related topics that concern you. Sessions like these can be especially helpful if you or a loved one has recently been diagnosed, or epilepsy has affected your life in a new way. These discussions are facilitated by staff members or volunteers who either have epilepsy or are closely connected to someone who does. In order to accommodate anyone in Wisconsin, these sessions are offered through Zoom or by phone.
If you’re looking for advice or simply need someone to listen to you, this is something for you to consider. Contact us for more information.
